Repairs and Maintenance Update

Most of the projects that we take on are one guy projects that go on Joe’s list of To-Dos.  From time to time there are projects that require more than one guy and those go on the Additional Help Required List.  Again this year Johnny Biddle and Don Grogan spent a week with us and we made great use of the time they were here.

Saturday, February 28: Guys arrived on time and no delays or problems along the way.

Sunday, March 1, 2026:  Attended church at Amazing Grace.  After church we were invited to a home in the village for a great meal of Pupusas.

Monday, March 2, 2026: Duck Run II

The village of Duck Run II allows Threads of Hope the use of their resource center for sewing classes so we do as much maintenance on the building as we can handle.  Joe’s One guy portion of the project involved reworking the potty room.  Several years ago a team cam to visit and worked on the addition of ceiling panels on a portion of the ceilings. We located the panels buried under a pile of rubble but were able to salvage enough to complete the job. The addition of a simple crown molding and some paint touch-up finished to job.

Tuesday, March 3, 2026: Los Tambos

The lower band of the chain link fence around the Tambos campus was originally secured using a pad of concrete.  This has eroded over the years. To provide more security and a longer life for the fence we added a pipe across the lower edge and wound wire to secure the fence to the pipe. 11 sections over close to 90 feet and we were tired at the end of the day – but the result was good.

Wednesday, March 4, 2026: Buena Vista

Buena Vista also allows the use of their resource center for sewing classes so we help with maintenance when and where we can. They are in the process of converting one classroom into a computer lab. Existing tables will be used but they needed the required wiring done.  We added 4 circuits and 28 outlets to the underside of the tables for the computers stations.  Next week air conditioning will be installed and the following week computers will be installed.

A couple dry erase boards were also installed during the day.

Thursday, March 5, 2026: Buena Vista, Duck Run II, Home Sewing

We used Thursday to catch up and finish loose ends. A couple things to finish on the BV tables, touch up painting at Duck Run II. This left enough time in the afternoon to deliver and set up a sewing table for Daisy & Brenda so they can get going on school uniforms.

Friday, March 6, 2026: Buena Vista, Los Tambos

A new steel roof addition to the eating area left a run-off section that flowed directly in to their outdoor sink. It was always filled and the drain clogged with leaves and debris. We bought the components and added a 36” x 170” extension to the roof over that section and problem solved.

Later in the day we returned to Los Tambos and made repairs to the gutter and downspout after the removal of a cistern.

Saturday, March 7, 2026

All good things come to an end and the guys had to return home.  On the way to the airport we made stops to give out some of the kids clothes from Grandma’s PJ’s.  Always fun to see the kids with their new clothes.

It was great to have the guys here for the week.  Once again, we accomplished a lot and had a lot of fun on the various projects – –  along with a few stories that will be told when we get home!
