Threads of Hope Update

Mar 27, 2025

By Joe and Linda Schnorr

Over the past couple of weeks it seems like everyone in all the groups have stayed busy on various projects. The projects have included personal and group work. Some of the ladies continue to refine their sewing skills while others have shown their creativity in design and sewing.

Los Tambos –The annual project of uniform fabrication began last week. The ladies began production of 94 sets of uniforms – skirts and blouses for the girls and trousers and shirts for the boys. Since beginning to do the uniform fabrication 6 years ago, the quality of production has become something the ladies can be proud of.  Here are three of the ladies who have participated since the beginning.

Buena Vista –The ladies have completed the latest batch of maternity robes and diaper bags for Hope for Life so they took on personal projects for a change. The evenings have been cooler than normal lately so a cover of some type feels good at night. Polar fleece material from Grandma’s PJ’s was sent in the last shipment so they used it to cut squares and make blankets. Everyone was excited – not only a fun project but functional as well.

Duck Run II –

As we always say – be careful what you wish for – you may get it!!!!  Over the past couple years there have been several additions to the total Thread of Hope program. Mostly individual ladies sewing from their homes.  We’ve always hoped for the addition of another group. A couple weeks ago a call was received from a lady in Duck Run II who heads up a social group who was looking for someone to teach sewing to a group of ladies from their village. Linda scheduled a meeting with the ladies to measure the interest and had 16 attendees – all with very little knowledge of sewing and but lots of interest.  This week will be the third week meeting with them and the same 16 ladies are scheduled to attend – and the interest is still high!!!

Building & Repairs –

Corporate donors from the area helped Buena Vista Government School build a chain link fence around their campus – minus 2 entrance gates – one 20 feet and the other 23 feet. The quote that was received almost stopped the project.  We took a look at the design – purchased the component parts and assembled the gates – almost like an erector set. Interesting project and saved lots of money.

Almost forgot!!! Sunday afternoon Sundaes with the boys- – – –

Hardly seems possible but 15 weeks have passed and in two weeks we will be headed home.  As great as it is to be in Belize – home still feels good!!!  The next two weeks will be filled with a lot of good-byes and packing!!!

Please continue to keep us in your prayers.
