True Confessions of an Interim

By The Rev. Dr. Carl Grosse

On July 13, our worship service will use throwback music from youth group songbooks of the 60s and 70s. For many, that era represents a fork in the road of history and church was right in the thick of it. Do you remember the first time you heard a guitar in church? I suppose in Tennessee that’s a dumb question, but it was controversial at the big downtown Presbyterian church in Great Falls. People walked out in protest when the Senior High Youth Group played and sang “Turn, Turn, Turn” during the 11:00 service.

Our objective is not to cause trouble (that’s what they all say, right?). Much of the music from that time takes a distinctively transparent approach to connecting daily life with the gospel. Then there’s the nostalgia element for many of you. We hope the music helps you go back in time, remembering the road you’ve traveled, and reflecting on how the Lord has been with you every step of the way.

If you would like to play a guitar or help lead the singing, please let Bob Eubanks know. Let’s all bring our hearts and voices to worship the One who is “our dwelling place from generation to generation”!
