Can you believe it is already Labor Day? The temperature may not feel like it, but fall is fast approaching and more routine schedules are back. That can bring some stability and security, but also a little more anxiety. Anxiety has often been a red flag for me, that I may be tired, and need to rest. I have found that rest can be one of my steppingstones, if I listen. God calls us to take sabbath time so that we can be renewed for God’s purposes. My devotion this morning reminded me that when we are tired we need to rest – it is being faithful. So many times, we think that we must do something in order to be faithful. But we must remember, it is not about us doing something, it is God who makes things work. If we are quiet and rested we can hear God more clearly, to fulfill God’s purposes.
Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 12, “The Lord said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.’ So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.” So be willing to admit you are tired and need rest. Fountain City Pres. has had a very busy summer, caring for those around us. So, this Labor Day, rest! (I know it sounds ironic, doesn’t it to rest on Labor Day? But it was designed to recognize those who labor.) Get renewed by doing something with friends or family. Or take an easy hike, or simply relax with a good book or watch something on TV. Anything, so that you can let the power of Christ dwell in you.
Blessings and peace,
Janna
