True Confessions of an Interim

By The Rev. Dr. Carl Grosse

Two newer folks are joining FCPC as Active Members this coming Sunday. Nancy Ferris is a neighbor of Barbara Manis (they live across a cul de sac from each other), and Barbara has been instrumental in Nancy’s getting acquainted with her new church family. Nancy comes here from Virginia. Back in Minnesota, I used to do one or two funeral services a month at Fort Snelling National Cemetery; it turns out Nancy served as one of the official funeral escorts at Arlington National Cemetery, so we’ve had some geeky chats about all of that. You’ll probably find less weird things to talk about with Nancy.

Mike Kromer is the guy up front on the left side with the bushy red beard that sits next to Ashley Kromer. He’s a glazier by trade and very busy with commercial window contracts the company he works for has won. Like Nancy’s story, I’m blessed to hear Mike describe how he started coming here and what he has experienced at Fountain City Presbyterian Church. Both Mike and Nancy are very intentional about their decision and eager to share in the wonderful ministry work that you all do. Simply put, they feel they’ve been blessed and want to pay it forward.

Nancy and Mike also remind me, as have all the lovely new members who’ve joined recently, that some of the most significant work God does is person-to-person. The ways you have shared God’s love with them is hard to see in budget reports or committee minutes, nor is it easily captured in social media posts or pictures. There’s real power in being prayed for, welcomed with a smile, and sharing a moment of joy. As we celebrate these new additions to our church family, never underestimate the power of God’s love!
