Fountain City Ministry Center is a thriving community of volunteers from 10 local churches, taking care of clients from our neighborhoods and beyond. We started out solely as a food pantry but over the years have added a children’s clothing closet and have partnered with Mobilize Knoxville to help clients with basic car repair services. These additional projects mean we need additional help!
We have recently recognized that the majority of our clients are Spanish speaking and some of the foods we normally offer don’t fit their palate or needs. We’ve begun offering “Latino” food bags that contain items preferred by these families, but these items aren’t provided by Second Harvest Food Bank, where we get most of our food. We are looking for a volunteer to help us out by doing the grocery shopping for these specific items. A shopping list and credit card will be provided.
Through Mobilize Knoxville, we are looking for volunteers to help with basic car work such as oil and brake changes, tire rotation, and other light work, under the supervision of a mechanic, at a garage. This would take place two Saturdays a month. We would love to have your help whenever you are available!
Also, through Mobilize Knoxville, we need someone to help clients fill out the required application, and to listen to their needs and pray with them if possible. This would take place at the Ministry Center during our open hours.
Some clients, particularly our elderly friends, often can’t make it in to pick up food, so we need help taking food bags to them at their home, much like Mobile Meals. This would also take place during our open hours, 2 times a month.
If you can help with any of these volunteer positions, or have any questions, please contact our Ministry Center Director, Michelle Myers at 606-620-8156.
As always, if you’d like to know more about Fountain City Ministry Center, please reach out to one of the church board members: Bill Keeler, Pat Wyrick or Laura Tappan. Thank you for your long-standing support of the Ministry Center!
